Hill County produce access and income-qualified food boxes have different requirements. Ask which fits your household.
Get to know the local options.
Havre’s seasonal Town Square market offers a place to meet growers. For food support, the local food bank distinguishes produce access from its food-box program, and its Hill County boundary matters.
Meet growers at Town Square
The Havre Chamber’s Saturday Market brings produce, home baking and crafts to Town Square at 322 First Street. Its published season is Saturdays from July through September. Check the Chamber’s current event information for the day’s hours before making a trip; the market page does not give an exact daily opening time.
Because vendors can participate once or return each week, a useful first visit is also a chance to ask how to find someone again. Ask a grower what is ready now, whether they take advance orders and how to arrange collection after market season. Do not assume the same stall or quantity will be available every Saturday. If you are buying for a group, agree on packaging, price and a collection date before building the menu around an order.
Food boxes, produce and growing space
District 4 HRDC’s Havre Food Bank separates access to produce and bread from its income-qualified food-box program. Its page says produce, bread and some other items are available during regular opening hours to Hill County residents. The food-box program has its own frequency and documentation requirements, so ask which service fits your situation.
The food bank lists 453 Seventh Avenue North, with hours of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, excluding holidays. Call 406-265-2007 before travelling if you need help understanding the requirements, are missing documents or live outside Hill County. Being near Havre does not establish eligibility for this particular program.
For people who want to grow some of their own food, the same HRDC page describes a community garden and a reduced-fee request option. Contact HRDC about current space, costs and the planting season. Published garden information is an invitation to enquire, not confirmation that a plot is available.
