In Browning, on the Blackfeet Nation, a community food pantry run by FAST Blackfeet stocks fresh locally grown produce and frozen meat alongside the garden and cooking classes FAST has run this year, and a two-day food sovereignty gathering is set for mid September 2026. No regular farmers market in Browning appeared in the sources checked for this guide, so the pantry, the Blackfeet Food Pantry Program and the local offices below are the starting points.
A pantry built around healthy, cultural food
FAST Blackfeet’s Ō’yō’·ṗ’ Food Pantry, whose name means We are eating, is at 108 2nd Street NW. Community members browse the shelves and take home fresh locally grown produce, frozen meat, herbal teas and other foods that are harder to find at local grocery stores. FAST says the pantry is need-based, not income-based, and serves anyone who comes to the door, with a dedicated Elder hour, a Working-Class hour and a seated waiting area. It also supplies mini pantries in outlying communities on the reservation. The pantry page posts its hours as pictures. At last check they were Tuesday, an Elder hour from 10 a.m. to noon and public hours from 1 to 4 p.m., and Thursday, public hours from 1 to 6 p.m. Call 406-471-9160 to confirm before travelling.
FAST’s events calendar lists its 2nd Annual Food Sovereignty Event from 8 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, to 3 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the same address, with a competition sign-up. Earlier 2026 listings included garden classes, a seasonal eating session and Blackfeet foodways sessions. Check the calendar for anything after September 18.

Montana Food Bank Network lists the Blackfeet Food Pantry Program at 500 Popimi Street and says to call 406-338-7340 for mobile pantry distribution dates and times. The listing gives no hours or eligibility, so call first.
Monthly commodity boxes for older adults
For the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, DPHHS lists North Central Agency on Aging in Conrad at 406-271-7553 as the eligibility office serving Browning and Heart Butte, among other Glacier, Pondera, Teton and Toole county communities. The program provides a monthly box of shelf-stable foods for people 60 and older within 150 percent of the federal poverty level.
SNAP applications and Extension
SNAP applications can be made online at apply.mt.gov, through the Public Assistance Helpline at 1-888-706-1535, or in person at the Browning Field Office of Public Assistance at 121 First Avenue NW, open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Blackfeet Reservation Extension Office, reached at 406-338-2650, is the Montana State University Extension contact for agriculture, horticulture, healthy living and youth programs, and lists a SNAP-Ed nutrition education instructor.
